Note: Keep suppositories refrigerated before use.
1) Start time
The best time to start treatment is the day after your period ends, as this allows for the longest uninterrupted period to address the issue without interference from menstrual flow. However, if you experience an AV outbreak mid-cycle, you can still begin treatment right away. If your next period is only a few days away, it may be more effective to wait until after it finishes. For those who no longer have menstrual periods, such as postmenopausal women or those who have had a hysterectomy, you can begin the treatment at any time.

2) Application Frequency and Duration
Each pack of AV-Nil contains 3 suppositories. For a mild case, 1-2 packs may be sufficient. However, for more severe cases, 3 or more packs might be necessary. The frequency of application should be based on your tolerance of the product.
After using the first suppository, if you do not experience any discomfort, you may use one suppository per day until you feel better. Most users report a reduction in symptoms by the 3rd or 4th day, although it may take longer for some.
3) Assessing Improvement
In a product test with over 200 customers, sensitivity was rarely reported, indicating a low likelihood of adverse reactions. Sensitivity, when experienced, was noted among both younger and older women, showing that it is not age-dependent.
If you experience any sensitivity, such as burning or irritation, it's recommended to pause usage for 1-2 days until the discomfort subsides. Afterward, you can resume with a reduced dose, using either ½ or ⅓ of a suppository daily, depending on your tolerance. To make dividing the suppository easier, refrigerate it beforehand. It’s helpful to keep the shell on while cutting and remove it just before use.
At bedtime and with an empty bladder, insert the suppository as deeply as you can with your fingers or an applicator. Keep the lying down position for at least 20 minutes or preferably the whole night to allow maximal absorption. White discharge the next day is normal. If the discharge is too much, wearing a pantiliner may help protect the underwear.
4) Write a daily journal
To help assess the effect of treatment, you can write a few words about your healing experience each day. This may include symptoms before and after the treatment. If you notice any symptom reduction, unchanged, or increased after you use the product, please record it each day. If you notice a side effect, like itching, burning, or other discomfort, please also record it.
5) Submit feedback
If your AV is not cleared after using AV NIL, your daily journal may help with troubleshooting. You can wait for 3 days and write down if the AV symptoms have returned after the treatment. Then, send a copy to us by email. If your AV is not cleared, we will help you troubleshoot and figure out what to do next. If you find relief, please also tell us about your successful healing experience. It will help others with the same condition also find relief.
6) Maintenance to stop AV from coming back
If your AV is cleared or substantially reduced after using AV NIL, we recommend that you take a break for two days and start doing maintenance to stop AV or BV from coming back.
After AV NIL treatment, you should take a break for 2 days before starting the maintenance program. This will allow the ingredients of AV NIL to be fully absorbed and avoid dosage accumulation between two products, which may cause irritation. Some customers started the maintenance too soon (without a break) reported irritation.
The maintenance products include NeuEve BV Clear (age <40) and Gold (40-50) once a week, and Silver (50-55) or Silk (>55) with suggested frequency on the box. If your lab test shows sufficient Lactobacillus (over 70%), you do not need to take probiotics. Otherwise, you need to take probiotics as suggested in this article: To clear AV, when should I take probiotics to be most beneficial?
Related article: AV and BV are different, but you recommend the same NeuEve products for stopping AV and BV from returning. Why?
How long should I do the maintenance? We recommend 3 months. If you do not see AV coming back for 3 months, you may be AV free for a long time.
After AV is cleared, it frequently recurs, AV-causing bacteria may easily come back to cause a re-infection from other sources. These sources are called "reservoirs."
There are 4 possible reservoirs that may harbor aerobic bacteria to re-infect the vaginal tract after it has cleared the unwanted bacteria.
The bladder, which often harbors E. coli, Enterococcus, etc.
The colon, which often harbors E. coli, Enterococcus, group B streptococcus, etc.
The skin, which often harbors Staphylococcus, etc.
The intimate partner may carry bacteria from you before you used AV NIL.
To stop AV from coming back, it is important to reduce the bacterial load in all possible reservoirs.
This article provides updated information about how to reduce reservoirs.

7) Sex during the treatment
While you are treating your AV with AV NIL, it would be advised to refrain from having intimacy. However, after you complete the AV NIL treatment and are in maintenance mode, you can have intimacy by following the suggestions detailed in this article:
