Why Do I Pay a Higher Import Tax or Customs Duty with Express Shipping?

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We understand your concern and agree that it seems logical for the same product to incur the same tax regardless of the shipping method.

However, some of our customers in Europe, Australia, and Canada have reported a similar experience: their customs duties or import taxes were significantly higher when using expedited shipping.

In some cases, the difference was several times more than expected.

We sought clarification on why this happens. The explanation provided by customs authorities is that import duties are often calculated based on the total declared value of the shipment. This value includes not only the cost of the product but also the shipping fees.

When using express shipping, the higher shipping costs increase the total declared value, which may place the shipment in a higher tax bracket, leading to a higher customs duty.

Recommendation for Cost-Effective Shipping

To help minimize unnecessary expenses for overseas customers, we recommend using the standard First Class shipping method whenever possible. While it is a more economical option, it does have the drawback of a longer delivery time, typically 2–3 weeks.

However, for those situations where time is of the essence, expedited shipping remains an option despite the potential for higher import taxes.

We hope this clarifies the issue. Thank you for your understanding and for bringing this to our attention!
